About Our Church
We are a Josephites parish. Staffed by the Josephite Fathers and Brothers since 1950. Our parish is part of the Archdiocese of Galveston-Houston
We the faithful parishioners of Our Lady Star of the Sea Catholic church believe that our mission is to spread the good news of the Love and Mercy of God to the communities that we serve and beyond.
Our mission is realized through the sacramental living and serving others through works of mercy in the spirit of our patron, The Blessed Virgin Mary. In concert with the Gospel of Jesus Christ, we focus on:
-
Forgiveness
-
Charity
-
Unity
-
Mercy
-
Prayer
Forgiveness
Giving up my right to hurt you, for hurting me. It is impossible to live on this fallen planet without getting hurt, offended, misunderstood, lied to, and rejected. Learning how to respond properly is one of the basics of the Christian life.
Charity
Philippians 2:3-4: “Let nothing be done through selfish ambition or conceit, but in lowliness of mind let each esteem others better than himself. Let each of you look out not only for his own interests but also for the interests of others.”
Unity
Paul tells us to “be eager to maintain the unity of the Spirit in the bond of peace” (Ephesians 4:3). I take that to mean that the Holy Spirit is the great giver of unity. “In one Spirit we were all baptized into one body — Jews or Greeks, slaves or free — and all were made to drink of one Spirit” (1 Corinthians 12:13).
Mercy
Mercy is a concept integral to an understanding of God's dealings with humankind. It comes to expression in phrases such as "to be merciful, " "to have mercy on, " or "to show mercy toward." It describes a quality of God and one that God requires of his people. It denotes compassion and love, not just feelings or emotions, as expressed in tangible ways.
Prayer
Prayer is a privilege and an obligation of the Christian where we communicate with God. It is how we convey our confession, requests, intercessions, thanksgiving, etc., to our Lord God. We are commanded to pray. Some personal requirements of prayer are a pure heart, belief in Christ and that the prayer is according to God's will.
